Growth of Single Crystal La2CuO(4+delta) films
EMSL Project ID
27393
Abstract
Recently La2CuO(4+delta) was found to undergo an interesting light-induced transient phase transition. We propose to use XAFS to look at the local structural changes occurring about the Cu and La sites, and XANES to look at the accompanying chemical (i.e. valence) changes occurring at the same sites. The XAFS measurements can be carried out at the time-resolved XAFS station at sector 20 at the Advanced Photon Source. The facilities at EMSL are required to prepare the necessary single crystal thin film samples. Using a thin film will allow the entire sample thickness to be optically excited, and a single crystal will allow use of the x-ray polarization to separate in-plane and out-of-plane changes in these layered materials.
