Plan for Testing of the Acumen Plasma Emitter Array

EMSL Project ID
29297

Abstract

The proposed Rapid Access collaboration between the EMSL Infrared Spectroscopy Laboratory and Acumen Scientific will test a new type of infrared plasma emitter array. Such an array can be used for spectroscopic research in the laboratory or for environmental sensing and imaging in the field. Brighter sources are always being sought to improve detection sensitivity in both laboratory and environmental sensing scenarios. The proposed work will set up the array in the Infrared Lab in EMSL and test the array using different discharge gases and plasma conditions. The array's spectral output will be measured using one of the Lab's bench top FIR spectrometers and its total output will be studied using a calibrated pyrometer. The array will be filled using one of the Lab's gas/vacuum manifolds. Acumen will bring its own high voltage discharge source to run the plasma in the array.
