Hydrolytic Stability and Susceptibility of Transition Metal Diolate Complexes and Applications to Green Oxidation

EMSL Project ID
3010

Abstract

A series of LReO3 complexes will be prepared and reductively cyclized with vicinal diola. The hydrolysis of these compounds will be examined by NMR and UV spectroscopies under a variety of pH conditions to establish rates for (1) hydrolysis to free the diol; and (2) susceptibility of the L-Re interaction to hydrolysis. Variation of the ligand L will reveal the degree to which electronic factors in the ligand control reactivity. Results will be applied to designing catalytic O-atom transfer reactions in environmentally benign media such as fluorous solvents and ionic liquids.
