Study of the initial oxide scale formation and growth on Haynes 214 alloy at 800 & 900C

EMSL Project ID
30485

Abstract

Initial oxidation processes in terms of the oxide nucleation and growth on Haynes 214 alumina forming alloy during exposure to an oxidizing atmosphere will be studied at 800 and 900C. Structural and Chemical properties of oxide layer formed on the metal surface will be characterized. Surface oxidation and the properties of the oxide layer will be examined as a function of exposure time up to 100 hours. Role of initial chromium oxide formation and transition to predominantly alumina scale will be studied.
