Dissolution and precipitation in the Hanford sediments under hyperalkaline conditions
EMSL Project ID
3054
Abstract
Hanford sediments were treated with Al-rich, hyperalkaline and saline solution.
As a result, dissolution ocurred and Si, Fe, K, Al, Mn, Mg, Ca, Ba were released
into the soil solution. Simultaneously, precipitation of secondary phases also
ocurred, and minerals in the group of cancrinite, sodalite and Fe oxides were
formed. It is necessary to run Mossbauer analyses to determine what
Fe oxides mineral species were formed.
