Posttranslational Modifications of Chicken Brain Myelin Basic Protein Charge
Isomers

EMSL Project ID

Abstract

My laboratory has been studying the posttranslational modifications of myelin basic protein (MBP) from human normal, and multiple sclerosis brain.Studies of bovine MBP (Biochemistry 37,2441-49, 1998, and dogfish (Neurochem, Res. 26, 539-47, 2001) have been published. A manuscript on the normal and MS MBP is in preapartion. We are also studying the posttranslational modifications in the MBP from other mammals and non mammalian species in order to asses the role playd by these modifications in the antigenicity of MBP. The proposed study will permit the first determination of the number, types and extent of these modifications in an avian species.
