Laser-induced time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopic characterization of Ce, Er doped YAG (Yttrium Aluminium Garnet) crystals

EMSL Project ID
31805

Abstract

Recent studies performed by our group on Ce, Er doped yttrium aluminum garnet crystals showed that the scintillation efficiency of these crystals can be increased by a post growth treatment but the indirect evidence suggests that most of the scintillation light is emitted not at 550 nm as expected but in the UV region by defects.
Our group does not have equipment capable of time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopic characterization of the crystals. We think that performing such a measurement can aid in understanding the nature of activator-defect energy exchange and help further improve performance of these crystals.
