Laminar Growth of Ultrathin Metal Films on Oxide Surfaces

Abstract
New procedures for laminar growth of transition metals on insulating materials will be explored. The concept of 'chemical anchors' for increasing the island nucleation density, and thus for inducing layer-by-layer film growth, is applied to new metal-insulator combinations, including Cr and Fe on hydroxylated sapphire.
