Characterization of Defects in Yttrium Orthovanadate

EMSL Project ID
3341

Abstract

A proposal is being submitted to use the high resolution transmission electron microscope at the EMSL facility in a study of yttrium orthovanadate (YVO4) crystals. Like yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG), YVO4 has been shown to have desirable properties as a laser host material. It is the goal of this study to characterize defects in the YVO4 crystals and relate them to the growth process.
