Structure and sequence determination of simple dipeptides by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy

EMSL Project ID
3411

Abstract

Use of a 500 MHz NMR spectrometer is requested to educate students in NMR spectroscopy. Currently the chemistry program at Eastern Oregon University does not have access to a NMR instrument. Therefore students enrolled in Chem 422, Instrumental Analysis Laboratory, lack any experiential ability to acquire and interpret data from MNR instrumentation. Under the guidance of Dr. David Hoyt, students will perform in real-time structure and sequence determination of three simple dipeptides, alanine-serine, threonine-arginine and threonine-aspartic acid. Dr. Hoyt will review fundamental concepts of NMR and NMR instrumentation and will assist students in collecting and interpreting the spectra, including a two dimensional COSY. All recorded data will be stored in an exsting electronic notebook which is currently used by the class.
