Field effect studies of CoxTi1-xO2 thin films

Abstract

Co doped TiO2 is a dilute magnetic oxide semiconductor that is potentially promising for spintronics device applications. The ferromagnetism of CoxTi1-xO2 is believed to be mediated by the doped carriers, with the conductivity and magnetization being closely linked. This particular research aims to determine more precisely this interdependence of transport and magnetic properties using the field effect. The carrier density in traditional semiconductors can be readily controlled by an external electric field. By applying a sufficiently strong electric field to Co doped TiO2, one can possibly induce a spectrum of magnetic and conductive behavior in this material.
