Parallel Reactive Transport Modeling of Radioactive Waste Form Weathering using the STORM Code

EMSL Project ID
4290

Abstract

The STORM parallel reactive transport code has been developed to simulate the geochemical weathering of radioactive waste forms after disposal in a subsurface facility. STORM simulates unsaturated flow in the vadose zone coupled with reactive transport in the aqueous and gas phases. Due to the complex chemical compositions of the various waste forms being considered, and the fine computational grids required, simulations routinely involve 4 to 16 million unknowns and must be run in parallel.
