Japan Relief: Belle Computing on Chinook

EMSL Project ID
45193

Abstract

The international Belle High Energy Physics collaboration is served by a computing facility (KEK) in Japan that was badly affected by the earthquake disaster. The impact on the scientific output of the collaboration is severe, and the KEK Director General has requested assistance from PNNL. Allison Campbell has offered some of her Director's discretionary time on Chinook. This proposal formalizes the request for that discretionary time. Many organizations across PNNL are contributing use of their computing hardware for this effort, and we are requesting 3% of Chinook's node hours (600,000 node hours). This Chinook time will be used to generate Monte Carlo simulation data and demonstrate PNNL's capability to perform this level of computation. The attached file describes the Belle relief effort at PNNL overall.
