AlN- and SiN-based Phosphors
EMSL Project ID

Abstract
Nitrides and oxynitrides have attracted significant attention in recent years because of their remarkable (thermal and chemical) stability, good fracture toughness while exhibiting unusual photoluminescence (PL) under near-ultraviolet or blue-light irradiation when activated with rare earth (RE) ions. These characteristics position nitrides and oxynitrides as important candidates for conversion luminescent materials, particularly if combined with RE-free activators. Nevertheless, low cost and reliable synthesis represent a major challenge, particularly when targeting highly efficient transparent phosphor films. In the same direction, we will explore the synthesis of alkaline earth/Mn and alkaline earth/ Zn-substituted aluminum nitride and silicon nitride nanophosphors. We expect highly efficient orange and red emission by the aluminum nitride- and silicon nitride-based nanophosphors.
