Attribution of Explosives: A continuing platform for infrastructure development for future NSD/EMSL collaborations

EMSL Project ID
47675

Abstract

As a seed project in FY 2012, we proposed to establish feasibility for advanced mass spectral imaging techniques for the characterization and attribution of plastic explosives and other complex explosive mixtures from around the world. This research was utilized to secure funding, and to develop an infrastructure within EMSL for future collaborations. The continuation of this work will allow for a dramatic expansion of our arsenal of forensic tools, as well as data analysis methods. We will use a multi-modal approach based on Bayesian statistics to integrate data from across EMSL and PNNL. This will not only strengthen our collaborations with NSD, but will also improve our data integration capabilities within EMSL.
