Analysis of Gas Samples from White Sturgeon Swim Bladders to Examine Their Buoyancy Regulation Processes

EMSL Project ID
48786

Abstract

Barotrauma as a result of passage through hydroelectric dams is a concern in fish mortality. Here we propose analysis of gas from fish bladders of white sturgeon that have been subjected to simulated conditions which induce barotrauma. Results from this study are likely to provide a better understanding of their ability to maintain neutral buoyancy under rapidly changing pressures.
