Stress and Transcriptional Control over Stress Response Cascades in Soil Bacterial Communities
EMSL Project ID
49224
Abstract
The goal of this Rapid Access proposal is to complete the analysis of metatranscriptomes in a Florida marsh sediment for presence of transcriptional factors that control gene expression in response to stress. The data will complete a manuscript and be used as preliminary data for two NSF proposals demonstrating for the first time the presence of multiple transcriptional controls in one sediment (Fig. 1). The title of proposed manuscript is “Measuring stress in intact microbial communities of a Florida marsh by analyzing transcription factors in the metatranscriptome”. This study will support the idea of using ratios between transcription factors as indicators of stress and correlate that to taxon-specific growth rates in intact communities. The deadline for the first NSF proposal is March 17, 2016.
