FT ICRMS analysis to assess the bioavailability of dissolved organic nitrogen in the storm runoff water from the St. Lucie Estuary watershed, South Florida

EMSL Project ID
49664

Abstract

We propose to utilize EMSL’s ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry to determine the bioavailability of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) in storm water from citrus grove, pastureland and Canal C-24 in the St. Lucie Estuary (SLE) Watershed, South Florida. It is important to determine the change in speciation and bioavailability of DON in storm water under different environment scenarios. Specially, this data are used to update parameters in existing models for prediction of DON fate and transformation in storm waters of SLE and to develop best management practices (BMPs) to protect south Florida watersheds.
