Enabling Reversible Hydrogen Storage and Transfer with Graphene-based Carbon–Boron–Nitrogen Materials

EMSL Project ID
60883

Abstract

The aim of this proposal is to develop an understand of how to control the pathways for the reversible uptake of molecular hydrogen in materials of interest to energy storage. We propose to identify and measure key chemical, structural, and thermodynamic properties of (i) Two-dimensional boron (B) and nitrogen (N), and boron-nitrogen (BN) doped high surface area graphene materials in which molecular hydrogen physi-sorbs to reactive sites and (ii) Organic liquids, adsorbed onto doped graphene materials react with hydrogen through e.g. saturation of double bonds, to store energy in chemical bonds.
