Measurements of Aerosol and Aerosol Precursors during the Summer 2004 Northeast Aerosol Experiment (NEAX)
EMSL Project ID
7995
Abstract
The Atmospheric Sciences Division of Brookhaven National Laboratory requests the use of the Proton Transfer Mass spectrometer and the Aerodyne Aerosol Mass spectrometer for measurements on the DOE G-1 aircraft during the Summer 2004 Northeast Aerosol Experiment (NEAX). NEAX is a component of the International Consortium for Atmospheric Research on Transport and Transformation (ICART2) experiment that will be conducted from approximately July 1 - August 15, 2004. ICART2 is a large multi-agency, international study that will examine the climate and air quality effects of pollutants as they are advected from the US Northeast Coast out over the North Atlantic ocean. NEAX is scheduled for July 15 - August 15, 2004. The current plan is to base the aircraft at LaTrobe Airport about 25 miles east of Pittsburgh. The scientific focus of the G-1 flights will be- 1. Process studies of aerosol formation and growth; 2. Air-mass scale studies of the evolution of aerosol chemical, microphysical, and optical properties; 3. Characterization of the contribution of midwestern sources of aerosols and aerosol precursors to the aerosol burden in the western North Atlantic ocean.Project Details
