Multifunctional Nanostructures for Nano-Biotechnology Applications
EMSL Project ID
8206a
Abstract
Our group at Boise State University is preparing powder and thin film samples of metla and metal oxide nanoparticles in pure and transition - metal - doped forms. We are also interested in preparing these nanoparticles encapsulated with fluorescent dyes and magnetic layers to make them multifunctional in nature for use in nano-biotechnology applications. In collaboration with Drs. C. Wang, M. H. Engelhard, V. Shutthanandan and R. Kokadapu, we would like characterize these samples and investigate their interactions with biological cells employing TEM, XPS, PIXE and Mossbauer spectroscopy.
