Conductivity of bacterial nanowires

EMSL Project ID
8390

Abstract

Scanning tunneling microscopy will be used to image and characterize bacterial appendages produced by iron reducing bacteria that are believed to be involved with the extracellular reduction of iron and manganese oxides. Conductivity measurements collected by STM will be used to confirm or refute the capacity of these appendages to carry electrons.
