Development of a Novel Approach for Imaging Inhaled Particulates

EMSL Project ID
10603a

Abstract

The specific aim of this project is to develop novel Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging methods for quantifying the location and amount of inhaled particles deposited in the respiratory tract of a live rat. Unlike conventional dosimetry techniques that employ short-lived, radio labeled tracer particles – the methods described here are completely benign, promise higher spatial resolution, lower detection thresholds, and are potentially better suited for measuring particle clearance since they employ magnetic tracer particles that remain stable over time.
