Raman Capability for EMSL Users

EMSL Project ID
19604

Abstract

Currently users of the EMSL facility do not have access to a to a dedicated Raman system. The objective of this proposal is to establish a usage agreement between the Environmental Spectroscopy and Biogeochemistry (ESB) Facility in EMSL and the Environmental Dynamics and Simulations (ED&S) Group in Fundamental Science Directorate in PNNL that would allow EMSL Users access to a state-of-the-art Raman spectrometer located in a radiological buffer area at a minimal investment of EMSL dollars. Such an arrangement would benefit EMSL Users in two ways: 1) providing needed advanced Raman capabilities and 2) the ability to analyze samples containing significant quantities of radioisotopes that currently could not be brought in to EMSL. In return, EMSL would agree to pay for maintenance, capability development, and the costs associated with radiological training and dosimetry for EMSL Users.
