High-field spikelet NMR of 65Cu in reduced azurin and (Cu, Zn) superoxide dismutase

EMSL Project ID
22196

Abstract

High-field 65Cu studies are proposed on the reduced, diamagnetic Cu(I) forms of two important metalloproteins, the blue copper protein azurin, and the essential erythrocyte enzyme (Cu, Zn) superoxide dismutase. Preliminary experimental and computational data indicate the central transition spectral widths of these proteins will be between 500 kHz and 1.2 MHz at 21 T, making observation of the transition by CP/spikelet methods feasible at low temperatures. Large quantities of both proteins are available.
