Demonstrate a systematic application of a magnetic tweezers: holding a protein molecule in solution

EMSL Project ID
23690

Abstract

Over the last three years, we have collaborated with Ms. Beveley Taylor in IDL/EMSL to develop a magnetic tweezers technique that is capable of holding a magnetic-beed tethered single molecule in solution. This device allows one to study protein conformational dynamics and functions in its native state under physiological relevant conditions. We propose to conduct a systematic examination of the device operation and application at BGSU single-molecule spectroscopy lab.
