Development and Applications of Novel Approaches for Analysis of Organic Aerosols using High-resolution Mass Spectrometry.

EMSL Project ID
30411

Abstract

The objective of the proposed research is to develop and apply new approaches for detailed, molecular-level characterization of the chemical composition of organic aerosols using atmospheric pressure surface ionization techniques and methods of high resolution mass spectrometry. The proposed research will focus on characterization of the molecular composition, formation and aging of WSOC components of aerosols. The research will be carried out along two major directions: (a) development and application of atmospheric pressure surface ionization techniques, i.e. DESI, DART, DAPCI etc for analysis of aerosol samples, (b) applications of these techniques for analytical chemistry studies of WSOC samples.
