Immobilized Enzymes for Bioremediation and Biosensing
EMSL Project ID
3241b
Abstract
Immobilized enzyme systems, stabilizing the enzyme activity, will be tested for the purposes of bioremediation and biosensing. Stabilization of enzyme activity is a critical advance that is required in order to use enzymes effectively for the remediation and/or biosensing of organic compounds in various environments. Various techniques of enzyme immobilizaiton will be investigated and compared, beginning with a protease (alpha-chymotrypsin) and tyrosinase, both of which are commercially available. We may also use a haloalkane dehalogenase for the degradation of trichloroethylene (TCE) and other chlorinated hydrocarbons of interest to DOE.
