Monolayer Protected Gold Nanoparticle Investigation and Characterization

EMSL Project ID
3451

Abstract

Monolayer-protected gold nanoparticles will be synthesized and characterized at Southern Oregon University and PNNL. The electron microscopy facilities at PNNL will be used to characterize nanoparticle core sizes and size distributions. Materials will be prepared with unusual thiol monolayers and they will be subjected to post-synthesis modifications. The effects of these post-synthesis modifications on such factors as particle sizes, particle size distributions, and crystallization into superlattices will be investigated.
