electron induced low-dose hypersensetivity

EMSL Project ID
3480

Abstract

Following very low acute radiation exposures, an increase in radiosensitivity has been detected at doses below 1 Gy in a number of cell lines in vitro. This phenomenon is termed ?low-dose hyper-radiosensitivity? or HRS. Cells showing HRS exhibit decreased cell survival, compared with the prediction extrapolated from the response to higher doses (1?5 Gy). We intend to study human glioblastoma cells (T98G). Our group has observed these cells to have a robust HRS response. Using broad-beam electron exposures, we will look for the presence of a HRS response as a function of initial electron kinetic energy.
