Physiologically-Based Biokinetic Model for Bacillus anthracis
EMSL Project ID
47635
Abstract
The objective of this work is to develop a preliminary predictive model for inhalational anthrax through the use of published literature as well as in vivo and in vitro data that have been, and will be, collected using New Zealand white rabbits. This preliminary mechanistic PB/PK model will be improved to describe bacteria (or spore) deposition in the respiratory tract and the temporal behavior of subsequent biomarkers of disease progression after inhalation to provide a more accurate quantitative basis for the extrapolation of animal data to low-dose human exposure scenarios. The focused x-ray beam, the flexible scan conditions (such as exposure time, number of projections, etc.), and the large FOV of the EMSL XCT system will allow us to collect data of the entire sample at high resolution and good quality.
