Real-Time Mass Spectrometry (RT-MS) Instrument Upgrade and Development

EMSL Project ID
51151

Abstract

EMSL currently houses the only Battelle patented real-time atmospheric sampling manifold technology that is used for monitoring in situ living systems in real-time. However, using this technology when applying it to new applications has been extremely difficult and time consuming. Our current manifold system was made by repurposing used and excessed parts in its construction. There is a great need to replace these antiquated parts with new modern components. Further modernization would include construction of a fully automated manifold using electro-actuated flow controllers. Addition of a real-time multiplexing capability for running replicates simultaneously would greatly improve sample through-put. Final activities would include retrofitting our technology to a GC-Orbitrap instrument.
