Integrated single-cell transcriptomics and proteomics platform
EMSL Project ID

Abstract
In this partner project, Scienion and EMSL teams will work together to develop an integrated single-cell transcriptomics and proteomics platform. The platform will enable us to simultaneously profile both gene and protein expressions from the same single cells in an unbiased way. Joint measurements of mRNA and protein expression can provide a more comprehensive understanding of gene regulation and reveal the complicated interplay between gene mutations and protein activities. Scienion is a world-leading biotech company focusing on precision liquid handling and its application in single-cell whole-genome sequencing and RNA sequencing. EMSL is the leading institution in ultrasensitive mass spectrometry, microfluidics, and single-cell proteomics (scProteomics). This collaboration will facilitate a unique fusion between scTranscriptomics (Scienion) and scProteomics (EMSL), for the first time, to perform untargeted profiling of both gene and protein expressions from the same single cell. The project is well aligned with “Single-cell biology” value stream within the EMSD/EMSL DigiPhen Decedal goal and the BER mission to predict the functional phenotypes of encoded genes. If successful, this capability will not only provide the EMSL user community with a unique single-cell analysis platform, but also broadly disseminate the developed technologies to external research communities for environmental and human health science.
