Chemical Imaging of Particles from TRACER field study
EMSL Project ID
51867
Abstract
This project will provide a physico-chemical description of individual atmospheric particles collected during the TRACER campaign, during which we will conduct systematic studies of composition and physical properties of airborne particles. Our goals are to (1) investigate the contribution of natural and anthropogenic sources to aerosol population during representative meteorological conditions, (2) characterize particle propensities to act as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN), (3) evaluate optical properties of typical particle ensembles with respect to their composition and mixing state. Our chemical imaging (CI) measurements will be systematically examined and correlated with the on-line field records of particle hygroscopicity, CCN, and optical properties, therefore providing critical feedback for further development and evaluation of the particle-resolved atmospheric models.
