Ion Funnel Development (PNNL Scope #48165, K.Tang JPL-Ion Funnel Project)

EMSL Project ID
17800

Abstract

Design and construct an electrodynamic ion funnel and associated components suitable for interfacing with the JPL mass spectrometer and laser ablation systems. Characterize and optimize the ion funnel performance using the JPL mass spectrometer for best results and provide engineering and science support on an as needed basis. ASSUMPTIONS: We are going to conduct research on the ion funnel performance in accordance with the client's expectations. PRODUCTS/DELIVERABLES: *A complete Ion Funnel instrument suitable to be interfaced with a mass spectrometer and laser sampling system at JPL including all design data and custom electronics. *Results of preliminary characterization and optimization of the Ion Funnel.
