Abstract

We intend to identify how molecular interactions at the intercellular level participate in controlling carbon assimilation, allocation and transformation in the plant-microbe-soil system (Fig. 1), and how these processes are affected by plant genotypic information and environmental perturbations such as drought or nitrogen limitation. A guiding hypothesis is that information in the plant genome is translated via intercellular interactions to phenotypic expression across scales, from molecular to the integrated plant-microbe-soil system.
