Identifying and Quantifying Sources of Variability in FTICR

Abstract

Many EMSL users are requesting Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) soil organic matter (SOM) data. However, there are many circumstances where results are unexpected and experts currently struggle to pinpoint a cause or explain the variation in results. Understanding predominant sources of FTICR data variability will help users design suitable experiments, will help EMSL staff guide users in understanding and interpreting the data, and will cement EMSL as the premier FTICR user facility. We aim to elucidate the primary sources of variability when utilizing FTICR, from sample preparation, through instrumentation, to data analysis.
