This scientist will be responsible for:

  • As a data scientist in the Computing, Analytics, and Modeling group, you will be responsible for:
  • working with experimental biologists to use systems biology models to inform experimental design, to deepen understanding of existing or new data, and to integrate modeling with lab automation
  • using and refining systems biology models, including genome-scale metabolic models, gene regulatory networks, and data-driven models leveraging new machine learning(ML)/artificial intelligence(AI) methods, to advance the bioeconomy and understanding of environmental processes
  • building computational pipelines and AI-based agents that automate the use and refinement of systems biology models and integrate with EMSL's experimental capabilities
  • developing scientific vision and shaping EMSL's development of ModEx capabilities enabled by lab automation and AI/ML
  • addressing computational challenges by leveraging software and platforms from systems biology, computational biology, and data science, and large-scale computing resources including traditional high-performance computing platforms as well as cloud computing
  • working with experimental, computational, and data scientists within EMSL to recruit innovative user proposals, to address data and computing challenges by building capabilities (e.g. pipelines and workflows) as needed, and to deploy and sustain those capabilities on EMSL systems.
