Post Doctorate RA - Spatial Glycomics Scientist
Closing Date

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) seeks an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position working on developing and utilizing bleeding-edge mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) instrumentation and methods for analyzing sugars, glycans and glycoconjugates from biological tissues. Emphasis will be focused on utilizing EMSL’s multiple high-resolution MS instruments for elucidating complex carbohydrate chemistry related to human health and pathology. The candidate will be responsible for advancing MSI approaches that enable efficient chemical characterization of the glycome – from soluble sugars via glycoproteins to complex polysaccharides – at cellular resolution. Furthermore, using developed tools, the candidate will help understand what glycome chemistry is crucial for specific cellular functions and provide the molecular relationship between individual classes of glycome in their interwoven pathways. A variety of MS and microscopy capabilities are available for the candidate to develop this work, including MALDI-FTICR, MALDI-timsTOF, MALDI-UHMR, ambient ionization (DESI, nano-DESI), tandem mass spectrometry, ion mobility (DTIMS, TWIMS, TIMS, SLIM) and high-performance liquid chromatography systems.
