Hybrid Numerical Methods for Multiscale Modeling of Subsurface Biogeochemical Processes
EMSL Project ID
24097
Abstract
This proposal for a development account on the EMSL MPP2 cluster is to support the SciDAC Science Application (SA) proposal "Hybrid Numerical Methods for Multiscale Modeling of Subsurface Biogeochemical Processes" and the associated Science Application Partnerships (SAP) "Process Integration, Data Management, and Visualization of Subsurface Simulations" and "Component Software Infrastructure for Achieving High Level Scalability in Groundwater Reactive Transport Modeling and Simulation." The combined SA and associated SAPs are aimed at developing software for doing large scale simulations of subsurface reactive transport by combining different physical modeling approaches into a single coherent simulation. Success in this effort will require both advances in methodology, to analytically define the appropriate interfaces between physical models, and the development of code to implement the new hybrid models.
