Structure determination of membrane proteins

Abstract

Membrane proteins, although representing about one third of encoded proteins, are structurally undercharacterized. Yet, with the recent improvements in field and experiments, solution NMR spectroscopy becomes a promising techniques for assessing the structures of membrane proteins. Two systems of medical relevance are currently being studied in our lab as model membrane proteins, a region of the epidermal growth factor receptor, and an integral membrane protein from mycobacterium tuberculosis, and solution NMR methods are applied to obtain strucutral information in isotopric, micellar conditions.
